The ultrasonic material evaluation method is based on transmission of acoustic waves into material under test. The wave energy is converted into mechanical vibrations in the material where the traveling wave is reflected from internal anomalies back to the transmitter or probe. Upon the return wave interaction with the probe a small amount of electrical energy is generated. This energy is amplified and evaluated in relation to the known artificial target. The method is highly suitable for automation.
